8S Portable cPCR

The 8S Portable cPCR is a battery-powered, hand-held mobile PCR machine. This unique device features a completely mobile, stand-alone thermocycler that provides ultra-fast PCR amplification with high sensitivity in an easy-to-use hand-held format. This instrument is ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, due to its battery-powered automated operation, easy-to-use software control system, and excellent performance.

The 8S Portable cPCR utilizes a rechargeable Li -polymer battery that provides more than 4 hours of continuous and uninterrupted operation with a single charge. The instrument can also be operated using an AC/DC adapter.

The 8S Portable cPCR is designed to perform ultra-fast and highly sensitive PCR amplification on 8 samples with volumes of 45 – 50 μl. It uses disposable capillary PCR tubes, specifically developed for the 8S Portable PCR system. Current pre-loaded protocols are designed for veterinary use, but literally all kinds of DNA samples (blood, tissue, others) can be analyzed within 45 minutes, without any pre-processing of samples needed.

Key technology

The 8S Portable PCR does not use the conventional thermal cycling process, therefore does not need the electrical power and multi-parameter programming which is common for conventional PCR machines.

The 8S Portable PCR instrument features a specifically structured heat block that maintains different temperature zones suitable for each of the PCR steps, and the sample is circulated by thermal convection across the high- and low-temperature zones inside the sample tube. The special design of heat block and PCR tubes enable accurate control of the sample circulation for performing ultra-fast PCR amplification.

Software Control

With pre-loaded protocols to perform a PCR reaction the 8S Portable PCR instrument can be instantly used, operated by an easy-to-use touch display. The operator is only required to set the sample type and select one of the pre-loaded protocols. Control parameters such as annealing, melting and extension temperatures are automatically controlled by the operating software.
The 8S Portable PCR performs PCR amplification based on the pre-defined parameters set by the selected protocol. The dynamic range of the amplification depends on sample type and PCR protocol, the average linear dynamic range is 10²– ~10¹⁰copies.

In collaboration with our customers any PCR protocols can be pre-loaded to the 8S Portable PCR software, to make it a truly customized ultra-fast and mobile PCR solution.
